One way they do this is by making sure that any refill you purchase can fit into any oil warmer model they’ve ever created. They also continue to evolve their warmers to efficiently use electricity and help oils last longer.

All About Glade’s Parent Company: SC Johnson Wax

SC Johnson is a household company name in America. Although the company has evolved over the years as reflected in slight changes to their name, they continue to make the products that have become so common and necessary in most households.

Named for its founder, Samuel Curtis Johnson, this company started in 1886. It’s one of the oldest family-run businesses that still exists in America. Initially called SC Johnson Wax, they started out making waxed products for floors, then furniture.

When Sam, a fourth-generation Johnson became head of the New Products Division, he presented his father with product ideas that had little to no wax in them. The first being the insecticide, Raid.

His innovative insight also led the company to release other novel products, like, OFF! insect repellent, Pledge furniture polish, and of course, Glade air freshener. All of these new products were released over the span of three years, from 1955 to 1958.

“Quite simply, you have to have new products – good products – or you die as a company.”
Sam Johnson, SC Johnson Wax
