Rocky Mountain Essential Oils Review: Are They Good?

It can be difficult to determine whether moderately-priced essential oils will provide you with the same level of health benefits as more expensive essential oils.

Rocky Mountain Oils is a respectable natural wellness company that produces essential oils comparable to all the more well-known brands. They make the S.A.A.F.E. promise that their oils are free of additives or synthetic materials. All of their oils go through layers of rigorous testing to ensure quality before it’s bottled and made available to you.

Keep reading to learn more about this company and why it’s a solid choice if you’re looking to buy exceptional essential oils.

Rocky Mountain Essential Oils Review

All About Rocky Mountain Oils

In 2004, Michael and Phoenix Vincent founded Rocky Mountain Oils in Orem, Utah. This couple wanted to access pure oils and other natural products without being roped into multi-level marketing practices.

Their business helped make natural wellness products more accessible without compromising quality. These are a couple reasons why “integrity, quality, purity, and sustainability” make up the foundation of their business.

Michael grew up assisting his mother with making natural home remedies. And this practice extended into adulthood. Phoenix is an alternative healing advocate who encourages a family atmosphere that extends to customer relations.

Rocky Mountain Oils (RMO) aims to be a trusted resource in the natural wellness community.

Rocky Mountain Oils Product Line

When this company began, they solely sold essential oil singles and blends. Over time, they’ve been slowly expanding their offerings but are now considered as one of the major players in the essential oil market.

In addition to 87 single essential oils (10 of which are certified organic) and 90 blends, RMO offers:

  • Diffusers (electric, portable, and handheld)
  • CBD oil
  • Household soaps and cleaning concentrate
  • Hair conditioner
  • Face moisturizer
  • Carrier oils
  • Wool dryer balls

Around 2018, RMO began offering organic essential oil singles, and their personal and home care line was introduced in January 2018.

Although all of RMO’s conventionally grown plant matter is non-GMO and responsibly grown and harvested, the company decided to offer organic oils in response to customer inquiries.

Organic farming is:

  • Chemical-free
  • Carried out in smaller quantities even though demand is high
  • Fertilized with manure and compost instead of chemicals
  • Processed separately from conventionally grown crops
  • More heavily monitored due to USDA certification standards

While these factors influence the cost, the quality of the organic oils is the same as RMO’s conventionally grown oils.

Essential Oils Combined with Carrier Oil

You may have noticed that some RMO blends include fractionated coconut oil. The same authentic essential oils are used, but this carrier oil is premixed into the blend. It seems that this is the case when more expensive essential oils, like rose, have been added to the blend.

Due to the way that it’s planted, harvested, and distilled, rose is sometimes called the queen of essential oils, and it can even cost more than gold per kilogram.

What is Fractionated Coconut Oil?

A clear, thin, odorless oil, fractionated coconut oil (FCO) is heat pressed and has a long shelf life. These factors make FCO an ideal carrier oil.

It helps with absorption of essential oils applied to the skin, preventing skin irritation. Adding FCO as a carrier oil might even make your essential oils more effective on your skin.

LOVE essential oil blend is an example of a RMO blend that’s 66% fractionated coconut oil. Remaining oils in this blend include lemon, orange, geranium, mandarin, ylang ylang, and rose. It’s an uplifting fruity and floral combination that can help you relax or plan an intimate evening.

Labeling indicates that these blends can be diffused, but I would caution against that. Fractionated coconut oil might be too heavy to diffuse, even if it is thin by industry standards. But ultimately, confer with the instruction manual or contact the company that made your diffuser directly to ask if oils like these might pose a problem.

If you do diffuse an essential oil blend with FCO, then make sure to clean the diffuser more frequently in between uses.

What Sets Rocky Mountain Oils Apart?

In 2013, RMO merged with Native American Nutritionals in order to better educate customers, improve the customer service experience, streamline their shipping process, learn to source new oils, and continue to produce quality products.

This merger has helped RMO to develop into one of the leading direct to consumer essential oil brands.

Paul H. Dean, the owner of NAN, has been part of the industry since the late nineties and has a wealth of information to contribute about cultivating, harvesting, and processing plants used to make essential oils.

Rocky Mountain Oils uses internal and third party GC/MS testing in order to verify that you’ll be receiving premium essential oils without any toxins, contaminants, or synthetic materials.

You can access the results of your batch of oils through their website. You’d simply type in the batch number printed on the bottom of your bottle and then view a report like this one.

Their in-house chemist oversees spot checks all the way through to the bottling phase. Physical properties of each oil are also measured for accuracy.

Once bottled and sealed, labels are added to the side and top. Side labels display icons indicating how each oil can be used. The three primary icons illustrate diffusing, household cleaning, and whether or not an oil can be diluted and applied to the skin.

On the top of each sealed cap is the name of the oil, which helps with more quickly distinguishing one bottle from the other. I don’t know of any popular essential oil brands, except Plant Therapy, that go the extra mile to add top labels.

Feel free to let us know in the comments below if additional brands do the same.

Grown in Oman on the continent of Africa, Sacred Frankincense is quite rare. This resin is gathered from the Boswellia sacra tree, which is the only species from this tree family that can survive the rocky terrain of Oman.

Not only is it rare, it contains 20% more alpha-pinene than other frankincense species. This organic compound is anti-inflammatory, supports respiratory health, fights bacteria and fungus, and can help support the immune system.

This bottle holds 5 mL (0.17 fl oz) of oil, which isn’t much considering the price. But no matter the brand, Boswellia sacra will be expensive due to the aforementioned reasons.

Sacred Frankincense essential oil is extracted from Boswellia sacra resin by steam distillation and has a woody and balsamic aroma. This species also carries sweet, warm, and spicy fragrance notes as well. It’s a grounding, earthy scent that can help you feel calm and rested. This oil also cleanses the air as it diffuses.

Pros

  • Highly therapeutic
  • Thin consistency diffuses well
  • Smooth, earthy scent

Rocky Mountain Oils’ Organic Orange Essential Oil was voted the best cold and flu essential oil in 2021 by Women’s Health magazine. Best used in the diffuser or topically when diluted, many people enjoy the sweet citrus aroma of this oil.

It’s a fresh, spritely scent that can boost your mood and help you concentrate.

Its organic certification might make it more appealing for individuals with compromised immune systems. This oil was cold pressed from citrus peels grown in Italy. You’ll receive a 15 mL (0.51 fl oz) bottle of medium-strength oil.

You can also blend this oil for even more aromatherapy benefits. Other citrus oils, like lemon and grapefruit are a good start.

Basil

Marjoram

  • Helps you relax and your mind to rest; it’s an herbaceous but somewhat spicy scent.

Lavender

Peppermint

Combined, this blend produces a comforting fragrance that can reverse migraine symptoms. If used regularly, it might even prevent migraine attacks.

Not everyone gets the same results with any treatment plan. But keep in mind that this is not a prescription. This blend should not replace a treatment plan from a trusted physician.

  • Diffuses well
  • Unique scent combination

Cons

  • May not benefit non-migraine sufferers
  • It may not be effective for everyone

  • Customers feel as though they can trust RMO to safely and ethically produce oils with straight forward pricing.
  • RMO oil quality is excellent!
  • Their prices are far more reasonable, and you can avoid paying membership fees and high shipping prices without sacrificing oil quality.
  • The 15 mL bottles can last a long time, which adds value to the price.
  • Rocky Mountain Oils are comparable, and sometimes even better, than the more expensive brands out there.

What Customers Dislike about Rocky Mountain Oils

  • Some customers dislike that results may vary and fragrance preferences are not always the same from person to person.
  • Some of the milder essential oils don’t always seem worth the price to customers.

Final Thoughts

You can expect pure, premium essential oils from Rocky Mountain Oils. From the farm to the bottle, they carefully monitor the growth, harvest, and production process to ensure quality.

Customers are largely pleased with RMO and often use these oils as replacements for brands like Young Living and dōTERRA. The kind of RMO oil you choose will depend on your needs. If you’d like to purify the air, I’d suggest Sacred Frankincense essential oil.

Tranquility essential oil blend is a wonderful sleep aid that you can diffuse overnight or right before going to bed.

But the choice is yours!

I love candles! I have personally tried over 100 brands of candles. The total burn time of these candles is over 5000 hours. I also talk about essential oil diffusers and reed diffusers. Essential oil diffusers and diffusers are also an important part of the scent in my home.
