If you are looking to jazz up your space with candles of various heights and textures, then this set might be the best option for you. It includes four molds for beginner to advanced usage:

They’re made with premium quality silicone that is flexible and durable enough to return to its original shape after using. Temperature safety ranges from -40°C (-40°F) to +230°C (446°F).

Due to its temperature tolerance and flexibility, any type of wax should work great in these molds. Even softer soy wax could pop right out of them without being destroyed.

Let’s round out this list with set of more advanced plastic molds. While this set is the most expensive candle molds I reviewed, it’s also the set which will likely last the longest.

So if you plan to consistently create candles for your house, this is the set of molds for you. 

Four sizes included:

• Pillar size 1: 5.9in (14.99cm) high x 1.6in (4.06cm) wide

• Pillar size 2: 5.1in (12.95cm) high x 1.9in (4.83cm) wide

These molds were cast out of caprolon, which is a unique material that can resist wear and tear, making them superbly durable. Even though it’s strong, it’s also very lightweight. Part of the reason why these molds can last longer is because they resist corrosion and they have a self-lubricating effect. This means that it might be a lot easier for you to demold your candles.

Smoothness of this material indicates that it’s unlikely that you will have to polish your candles once they have set. But you may want to lubricate the walls of the mold prior to pouring for easier removal.

The highest recommended fill temperature is 167°C (332°F). It is common for wax to expand and then contract as it cools and sometimes this results in a well or dip forming at the top of the candle. But large can also be subjectively interpreted. Some people may want their larger candles to be tall and wide, yet another person might want larger candles to be wide, but shorter. 

But if you would like to place your candle on a small ledge in the bathroom or on the nightstand in your bedroom, you may want to choose a small decorative candle mold.

What Types of Candle Molds Exist?

You may be wondering if you have more options when it comes to choosing a candle mold. Based on my experience, there are three primary materials used as candle molds: metal (usually aluminum), plastic, and silicone. You may also find variations of plastic molds, like the Candle Shop’s caprolon mold I mentioned earlier. 

Aluminum Candle Molds

Aluminum candle molds are usually cast as a singular cylindrical tube or as smaller tea light candle molds. Since this material has limited flexibility, you are unlikely to find any additional shapes.

If you are looking for more variance in shape, you would likely choose a material other than aluminum. 

Plastic Candle Molds

There are more plastic options than there are aluminum ones. Plastic molds can be cast as cylinders, tapered pillars, spheres, ribbed cylinders, cubes, seashells, small tealights, and pyramids. 

The drawback with plastic candle molds is that oftentimes you have to lubricate the mold (usually with cooking oil) prior to pouring in the wax. Also, when demolding from plastic, you may have to place the mold filled with solid, cooled wax, into the refrigerator or freezer to help constrict the wax so that it can be pulled out more easily.  

The Candle Shop’s caprolon mold might be an exception to the lubrication rule, but it depends on the type of wax you plan to use. We’ll talk a little bit more about waxes in the next section.

Silicone Candle Molds

Lastly, we have silicone molds which offer the most versatile selection of shapes due to this material’s flexibility. Beyond the basic shapes mentioned earlier, a silicone candle mold can be shaped like cacti, a woman’s silhouette, various types of flowers, bubbles, wrapped gifts, precious stones, and more. I think that the possibilities are literally endless with this material.

Silicone drawbacks? Even though they are highly flexible, they can also break if handled with great force. They can also be punctured by sharp objects, decreasing their value due to the potential of them being damaged more quickly than aluminum or plastic molds.

Another drawback is that the lower quality silicone molds do not always revert to their original shape after they have been used a number of times. 

So if you are interested in creating cute, modern candles every now and then, then silicone candle molds might be your best option.
